Backpacks for Students, Book Sale, and—Oh!—Those Summer Nights
Here's what you need to know today, Aug. 16, in Lemon Grove.

1. Ready for School: Lemon Grove Foursquare Church will distribute school supplies in backpacks to 500 children in grades K-12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the church. The outreach program will also provide groceries and serve lunch to participants. The event features music, face painting and fingerprinting.
2. Books, Books, Books: The Lemon Grove Friends of the Library will sell autographed copies of books to raise funds for new shelves ... to hold more books! Prices range from $5-$25. The sale takes place from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Lemon Grove Library.
3. Grease Is the Word: Young Actors' Theatre in Spring Valley stages the musical "Grease," with shows Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There are evening and matinee performances. Tickets are $10-$12.
4. Keeping Kids Safe: A town hall meeting next week with District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis and Sen. Joel Anderson will address child safety. Read all about it in Anderson's latest blog post.
5.Great Weekend Ahead! Warm weather continues today and throughout the weekend, with a high of 80° F expected Saturday, and 79° F Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Overnight lows should be about 62° F.
