Firefighters In Lemon Grove 'Fill The Boot' For Burn Institute

LEMON GROVE, CA — Firefighters on Thursday, March 10, will be stationed at more than 100 major intersections throughout San Diego County, including in Lemon Grove, for the Burn Institute's annual Firefighter Boot Drive. Hundreds of firefighters from 30 fire departments will help collect donations from 6:30 to 9 a.m.

Funds raised will benefit the San Diego-based organization's fire and burn prevention education and burn survivor support services such as Camp Beyond the Scars for burn-injured children. In addition, a portion of the Boot Drive donations will support the Red Line of Courage Fund, designed to provide financial support to members of the fire service who sustain a burn injury while on duty.

"This is our biggest one-day fundraiser of the year," Burn Institute Executive Director Susan Day told Patch. "We are proud that everything stays local, and that thanks to our many generous supporters, we can continue to offer our prevention and support programs for free."

This year, banners with QR codes will hang at participating fire stations throughout the month of March to promote the Boot Drive. The banners and signage used on Thursday will also include QR codes for a contactless payment option.
