Free Haunted House Admission for Prom Dress Donation

The "Carrie"-themed gown drive helps local high school girls attend formal dances.

What do you get when you combine the creepiness of Carrie with a good cause? Free admission to a haunted house—if you have a prom gown to donate. But there's a catch—the dress can't be stained with pig blood dumped on you by bullying classmates.

If you're looking for a scary good time tonight, and have a fancy dress to spare, a donation to a Carrie-themed prom dress drive will get you in the door of Savage House, the haunted house at Grossmont Center. The collection benefits the Princess Project San Diego, which helps local high school girls attend school formal dances by outfitting them with gowns and accessories they would otherwise not be able to afford.

Those who want to participate must follow some guidelines:

—Dresses and accessories must be stylish, clean and in excellent condition. They must be 2006 or newer purchases.
—Prom dresses, formal gowns and fancy party dresses are welcome. Wedding dresses can not be accepted.
—Dresses must be dry-cleaned and on hangars. Dresses that have not been dry-cleaned can not be accepted.
—Items such as makeup, shoes, casual clothing and men's attire can not be accepted.

The dress drive takes place from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday at Savage House, located on the top level of the parking structure at Grossmont Center, 5500 Grossmont Center Drive, La Mesa.

The dress donor will receive free admission to the haunted house. Savage House general admission is $11. You can go to the head of the line for an additional $6.

For more information, visit the Savage House web site.

Carrie, starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore, opens in theaters Friday, Oct. 18.
