Monday Essentials: Weather, Gas Price, and This Darn Cute Panda

News and notes from around the region.

Good morning, Lemon Grove! Here's a look at the week ahead—and 5 Things You Need to Know:

5) Look who's 1! Xiao Liwu, the San Diego Zoo's little bundle of panda joy, will celebrate his first birthday with a cold treat— a cake made of ice, bamboo and fruit. Six-time panda mom Bai Yun will be on hand for the 8:45 a.m. party for her "Little Gift." The Zoo has a panda cam if you want to spy on the birthday boy.

4) Weather this week will be summery with morning clouds and highs around 73° F to 75° F, according to Weather.com. The National Weather Service is predicting patchy fog during morning commute hours and after 11 p.m.

3) The city will host an informational seminar on how to design and construct keystone walls Monday. The stacked block walls are lightweight and easy to build. The seminar starts at 6 p.m. at the Lemon Grove Community Center, 3146 School Lane. Click here for more details.

2) Friday is ice Cream Sandwich Day. Has anyone tried the diet-busting Strawberry Pop Tart Ice Cream Sandwich at Carl's Jr.? Tell us in comments if you think it's worth the 320 calories.

1) Gas prices continue on a downward trend, falling 3.0 cents since last week. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular
gasoline in San Diego County is $4.046—which is 23.5 cents more than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
