Why Are We In Ukraine?

There is no valid political, economic or social reason for potentially getting into World War III.

U.S. taxpayers have sent billions to Ukraine, with more to come. This is tanking our economy—and for what? Zelensky is not the hero touted in the press. He is a dictator bent on squashing all opposition. Now he faces the unthinkable—Russia’s potential destruction of Ukraine’s nuclear plant. After Chernobyl, nuclear winter across a swathe of Russia followed.

And what of China, our dangerous adversary? Biden has forced an unholy alliance between Russia and China. Should Ukraine fall, the Ukraine policy of the Bush, Obama, Trump and Biden administrations will rank as one of the most catastrophic foreign policy blunders in U. S. history.

Though America has a military budget 12 times Russia’s, we are wandering alone in the weeds. Germany imports Russian oil and gas at vast expense to its people; India and China and other rising nations do likewise and won’t cut economic ties with Russia. The latter sends mineral resources and exportable food to a needy China.

Here in the “Golden State,” Governor Newsom decrees that only electric cars can be sold in California, starting in 2035, a mere 13 years off. China makes the batteries for those cars, using African lithium mined by child labor. China is all over the African continent, just as it is all over Central and South America. For the Sino monster, human rights be damned. Let COVID rule!

There have been signs for decades that a new Iron Curtain is about to drop on Eastern Europe, now spurred on by the U.S. desire to place Ukraine in NATO. This is part of a larger story: power and influence are shifting away from Europe and America and toward Asia. In the inevitable, technological war, how many of our sons and daughters are we willing to sacrifice in a lethal conflict that spares no one?

So, how come we’re in Ukraine? Biden asserts we must obliterate Russia lest China seize Taiwan. For Vladimir Putin, Ukraine is a war of choice. He would like to stop fighting, but can’t as long as the U.S. is arming Ukraine (and bankrupting Americans). Biden also chose to enter the conflict, but now cannot exit for fear of damaging the international system from which America has derived power and prosperity for more than a century.

Wars like this one lead to a grim stalemate.
