The holiday season is officially here, and there’s no shortage of ways to soak up the magic in and around Livermore. To help get you in the spirit, we’ve rounded up a dozen festive ideas you can enjoy throughout the month — each one a fun, joyful way to celebrate the season close to home.

From twinkling light displays and holiday markets to cozy treats, local shopping spots, winter activities and seasonal shows, these 12 picks highlight what makes Livermore feel especially merry this time of year. Whether you check off one or all twelve, it’s all about slowing down, supporting local businesses and making memories.


1. Play in the snow at the Dourov Livermore Christmas Light Display.

Head over to 467 Knottingham Circle for the Dourov Livermore Christmas Light Display. You can walk around the driveway and porch to press buttons and activate light displays. Turn your radio to 107.9 FM for synchronized music, and make sure to bring a few quarters for the snow machine! This display will be up from Nov. 28 through Dec. 27 and is open every day from 5 to 10 PM.

2. See Deacon Dave’s annual display at Casa del Pomba.

For over 40 years, Deacon Dave Rezendes has welcomed visitors to see the decorations at his home, known as Casa del Pomba, at 352 Hillcrest Avenue. His display includes over 900,000 lights, multiple Christmas trees and decorated structures built by volunteers. There have been over 86 wedding proposals on the proposal bridge walkway at Casa del Pomba. Keep an eye on the website for this year’s theme announcement and display hours.


3. Enjoy a wine tasting and trolley ride with the Livermore Wine Trolley’s Lights of Livermore.

Get into the holiday spirit at the Livermore Wine Trolley’s Lights of Livermore tour. This event starts at the Concannon Vineyard with a one-hour tasting featuring a flight of wines. Then, you can climb aboard the trolley to enjoy holiday music while taking a tour of light displays in Livermore. This event runs from Dec. 5 through 23 with tours at 5:30 PM and 7 PM. Tickets are available online for $72.99 per person.

4. Decorate your home with an arrangement from The Holiday.

With custom silk flower arrangements and a wide variety of home decor, The Holiday has everything you need to deck your halls for the season. In addition to beautiful floral arrangements, The Holiday offers candles, home fragrances, collectibles and handbags. The Holiday is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 AM - 6 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM - 5 PM.


5. Find one-stop shopping and dining at The Danville Livery.

Located in nearby Danville, The Livery features a variety of shops and restaurants to make shopping easy and enjoyable this holiday season. Santa will be at The Livery on Saturdays and Sundays in December through Dec. 21 from 12 to 3 PM for pictures. You can stop by on Dec. 6 from 12 to 6 PM for Christmas at The Livery to play in the Snow Zone, visit with Santa and enjoy the hot cocoa bar.


6. Step into ‘A Christmas Story’ with a themed pop-up bar at Cellar Door.

Down the road in Pleasanton, you can immerse yourself in the classic movie “A Christmas Story” at Cellar Door’s themed pop-up bar. Cellar Door is fully decorated and is serving up unique cocktails to recall some of the movie’s best moments, like the Red Ryder BB Gun, the Black Bart and the Triple Dog Dare. You can visit Cellar Door Tuesday through Thursday from 4 to 10 PM, Friday and Saturday from 4 PM to 12 AM and Sunday from 2 to 8 PM.


7. Stroll through Holiday Nights in the Garden Store at Alden Lane Nursery.

For 70 years, Alden Lane Nursery has been serving the community by offering a wide selection of flowers, trees, shrubs and garden items. They’re hosting Holiday Nights in the Garden Store on Dec. 4, Dec. 11 and Dec. 18 from 5 to 8 PM with artists, vendors and the chance to win raffle prizes. Holiday Nights shoppers can take advantage of discounts, samples and free gift wrapping.


8. Savor a fresh cup of coffee at Grounded.

Grab a chair and sit for a while while enjoying a drink at Grounded on Wright Brothers Avenue. Their menu features pour-over coffee, lattes, matcha and options for breakfast and lunch. Grounded is open Monday through Saturday from 7 AM to 2 PM and Sunday from 8 AM to 2 PM.


9. Practice ice skating at Tri Valley Ice.

Tri Valley Ice on Preston Avenue has two ice sheets that are perfect for learning how to ice skate or just enjoying a fun winter activity with the family. Public skate days are available on select dates throughout the season, with days and hours listed on the arena’s website. Sessions are $12 each ($5 for skate rentals) and can be purchased online or at the front desk.


10. Browse the shelves at Towne Center Books.

For over 30 years, Towne Center Books has offered the latest new releases and a wide selection of fiction, history, mystery, children’s books and more. In addition, Towne Center Books hosts book clubs, author events and writing workshops. Their Livermore location on Railroad Avenue is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 AM to 5 PM and Friday and Saturday from 11 AM to 8 PM.


11. Discover unique gifts at Main Street Designs.

Located in Downtown Livermore, Main Street Designs offers a curated selection of women’s clothing, jewelry and accessories. You’ll also find candles, cards and unique gift items that are perfect for anyone on your shopping list. Main Street Designs is open Sunday through Friday from 11 AM to 5 PM and Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM.


12. Savor a holiday season meal at Simply Fondue.

With a full menu of cheese fondues, dessert fondues, salads, entrees and appetizers, Simply Fondue has something for everyone. This First Street spot offers vegetarian and gluten-free options, along with an extensive drink menu. Simply Fondue is open Monday through Friday from 4 to 10 PM, Saturday from 3 to 10 PM and Sunday from 3 to 9 PM. Reservations are highly recommended for this unique dining experience.
