2 Dead, 3 Injured In Wrong-Way 580 Crash Near Tracy: CHP

A Honda was traveling east in a westbound lane early Sunday morning, resulting in a fatal head-on crash.

TRACY, CA — Two are dead and three were injured in a wrong-way crash on I-580 near Tracy Sunday morning, according to reports based on an account from the California Highway Patrol.

Just after 2 a.m., a Honda Accord traveling east on westbound 580 struck a Kia Telluride head-on near the Corral Hollow Road offramp, according to numerous reports citing CHP. Both vehicles overturned, and one caught on fire.

The 18-year-old Antioch man driving the Honda was ejected from his car, and later pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Kia, a 32-year-old Fort Bragg woman, was transported to San Joaquin General Hospital, where she later died.

The Kia contained three other passengers. A two-month-old girl and 35-year-old man were both taken to the hospital for major injuries, while a four-year-old boy sustained minor injuries.

All nearby lanes of I-580 westbound were closed for about four hours Sunday morning, according to Fox40. CHP said it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
