65 Trees Planted During AMPlify The Urban Forest Arbor Day

LIVERMORE, CA — More than 200 people showed up to help plant trees in Livermore March 12. An open space in Springtown near the intersection of Bluebell Drive and Hollyhock Street now has 65 trees.

“It’s beautiful to see what can occur when people work together toward a common goal. Today was such a day, and it was wonderful to plant 65 trees in such a short time,” Rotary Club President Angelika Voss-Quinn said.

The event was put on by the Rotary Club of Livermore Valley, JustServe and the City of Livermore.

Livermore was one of 28 cities in the state to receive an AMPlify the Urban Forests grant from Cal Fire. The original plan was to plant in Marlin Pound Park but that changed to fill the large open space in Springtown.

A request for volunteers was sent out earlier in the month and friends, families, neighbors, Daisy Scouts and many other volunteers were just some of the people to answer the call.

“The tree planting event was a successful showcase of collaboration between a number of community partners, our grant sponsors, and city staff to support the growth of Livermore's urban forest," Joe Prime, City of Livermore Public Works Landscape Supervisor, said.

The names of the volunteers who helped plant the trees can be seen on tree tags until they grow out of their stakes.

The Livermore community is encouraged to walk in the Springtown open space and enjoy the newly planted trees and then continue to come back and watch them grow.
