Family Business Opens Its Doors To Success: Polo's Corner Livermore
One of the city's newest restaurants is now open for dinner - a testament to early success.

LIVERMORE, CA — Polo’s Corner opened to the public in Livermore on February 12 serving breakfast and lunch. So far, the family-run restaurant is off to a great start and growing already.
“The community has responded really nice. Sometimes it can take six months to a year to take off but with social media the word spread a lot faster for us,” owner Erick Cardenas said.
The restaurant served just breakfast and lunch for only three weeks. Then they quickly opened for dinner.

“Everything took off in the second month. Breakfast and lunch are solid and now we need to add to the dinner menu," Cardenas said.
The restaurant's food is described as California cuisine with a Mexican infusion. But what exactly does that mean? Cardenas said it’s about adding a touch of sweet.

“I got to the country when I was 16 years old and fell in love with California cuisine. It’s fresh, it’s harty, it’s healthy but it's also sweet and I have a sweet tooth,” he said.
Perhaps eggs benedict with a mango habanero sauce? Yes, they have it.

Cardenas runs the restaurant with his sister and brother, which has its challenges, but he says he wouldn’t want it any other way.
"My brother is the youngest and my sister is the oldest. I am the referee," Cardenas said. “But it’s the best way to run a business. The restaurant industry is very demanding and having my siblings here is an advantage; we all take a part on.”
Polo’s opened when things appeared to be slowing down with the pandemic, but it was still very much around. Still, the family has pushed through.
“I've been doing this for 20 years and this is the worst we have ever seen,” Cardenas said. “I don't think we are 100 percent but I think for the restaurant industry we are in a good place right now. Thank you to the community for such a great response to our place and we invite everybody to come over and give us a try.”
The plan now is to add three more main courses to the dinner menu.
