LIVERMORE, CA — John Concannon, a fourth-generation steward of Concannon Vineyard, died at 64, the vineyard announced. The vineyard posted the following obituary:

"John James Concannon, age 64, passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his beloved family on June 20, 2025. For ten courageous years, John battled brain cancer, enduring multiple surgeries, and treatments under the compassionate care of UCSF. Throughout his journey, he remained a model of unshakable positivity, resilience, and strength.

"The firstborn of Jim and Helen Concannon, John was raised at Concannon Vineyard, where he developed a lifelong appreciation for hard work, heritage, and community. Alongside his siblings, he grew up rooted in a life centered on faith, family, and enduring friendships—values that shaped his generous spirit and unwavering commitment to those he loved.

"John attended St. Michael’s School and Livermore High before earning his degree from Chico State University. He went on to build a successful 22-year career in sales management with some of the nation’s leading medical device companies. Eventually, John returned to his roots, proudly representing Concannon Vineyard. As a 4th generation vintner and member of the winery’s management and winemaking teams, he traveled the country sharing his knowledge and passion for wine and the industry.
"John is survived by his parents, Jim and Helen Concannon; his sisters, Mary Lessard (Scott) and Anna Marie Moore (Ken); and his brother, Paul Concannon (Robin). He was a devoted uncle to his niece Shannon Lessard-Merry (Bradley) and nephews Eric Lessard and Kyle Moore. No matter how far his travels took him, John always made time for his family —returning home for milestones, celebrations, and times together.

"He will be remembered as a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend—cherished for his warmth, humor, generosity, and indomitable spirit.

"The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the remarkable team at UCSF’s Neuro-Oncology Department and to the dedicated home-health-caregivers and Hope Hospice for their kindness and compassionate care.

"We love you, John, and will carry you forever in our hearts. “Onward and upward,” our dearest John.
