Las Positas College Hosts Annual Veteran's Day Observance on November 8

US Army Veteran Jim Zenner will be the featured speaker.

United States Army Veteran Jim Zenner has been named as the featured speaker for Las Positas College's annual Veterans Day Observance on Tuesday, November 8th. Set to begin at 10 a.m., the event and will run until 2:30 p.m.in the Mertes Center for the Arts, Building 4000, Main Stage.

The community is cordially invited to the free event, but there will be a $2 charge for parking. A BBQ lunch will be available for those who attend the event. There is a suggested donation of $10 for non-veterans, but no one will be turned away because of lack of funds. A Student Veterans Gallery, Opening Ceremony, and a Vet Vehicle display at a designated parking area will highlight the event's festivities.

Jim Zenner, who served seven years in the Army and three years in the Army Reserves 2006 OIF with 1-14 Cav 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, will be the featured speaker for the event.
Joining Jenner on the stage will be John McPartland, a highly decorated, 30-year U.S. Army Veteran with over 50 awards that include a Bronze Star and a Distinguished Flying Cross. He was also named the 2015 Veteran of the Year at the California State Capital.

The Veterans Day Observance is sponsored by Las Positas College Veterans First Program, which provides veterans with services and resources to help them achieve their educational goals. This past academic year, more than 400 veterans or active duty military personnel were enrolled at the college. The college has been recognized as a Military Friendly School by "G.I. Jobs" magazine, placing the college in the top 15 percent of educational institutions nationwide.

Veterans support services include a full-time program coordinator and counselor, priority registration, transfer workshop, a book loan program, a study/drop-in tutorial center, work-study program, and an active Student Veteran Organization.
