Livermore Auto Burglar At-Large

Police tried to chase a fleeing burglar likely tied to smashing car windows, but stopped due to safety concerns.

LIVERMORE, CA — An auto burglary suspect police believe is tied to at least five vehicles with smashed rear windows in the area is at-large, according to the Livermore Police Department.

Just before 4 a.m. Wednesday, a Livermore officer was patrolling the neighborhood near Encino Drive and Laguna Street when he interrupted an auto burglary in progress. The suspect quickly fled in a car, and the officer initiated a pursuit.

The officer followed for several minutes, but decided to end the pursuit due to safety concerns. According to California law, all law enforcement agencies must enact policies for discontinuing high-speed chases to maintain public safety.
