Construction Underway On Livermorium Plaza
The plaza, named for the element created in Livermore, is a tribute to the partnership between the city and Lawrence Livermore National Lab.

LIVERMORE, CA — A groundbreaking ceremony for the soon-to-be Livermorium Plaza was held in December.
The plaza at Mill Square Park is a symbol of the relationship between the city of Livermore and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where the Livermorium element was created.
A small groundbreaking was held earlier this week to mark the park's opening. Former Mayor John Marchand and LLNL Director Dr. William Goldstein were among those who attended the small gathering, while wearing face coverings and maintaining social distancing, according to a news release from the city.

The city "is a better place because of what our labs do," Marchand said in the news release.
Livermore is one of two U.S. cities that have an element named after them. Berkeley is the other.
