Sports run deep in Livermore, and Granada High School has long been at the heart of it. It’s no surprise some standout talent once wore the Matador uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from Granada High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.


1. Jack Trudeau - University of Illinois Hall Of Famer

A former Matador, Trudeau had a great career at Illinois as a two-time Second-Team All-Big Ten member before being drafted in the second round by the Indianapolis Colts. He was a member of the team when they made their first playoff appearance since relocating to Indianapolis. (Source: FightingIllini.com)


2. Mark Davis - Former MLB All-Star & Cy Young Awardee

A highly regarded pitcher out of Granada, Davis was the first overall draft pick in 1979 to the Philadelphia Phillies, and his MLB career was highlighted by two All-Star appearances and a Cy Young award. (Source: BaseballHall.org)

3. Alexandra Mello - Olympian Scholarship Award Finalist

The most recent alum on our list, Mello received multiple accolades in both water polo and softball. She was a finalist for the Olympian Scholarship award for the Livermore-Granada Booster Club and continued her athletic and academic career at the University of Hawaii. 4. George Atkinson III - Former NFL Running Back

A former Rivals.com top 100 running back and state medalist, Atkinson III continued his career at the University of Notre Dame shortly before entering the NFL as a free agent, where he played for a few teams, including the Raiders, Browns and Chiefs. (Source: NDInsider.com)

5. Louie Aguiar - Former Second-Team All-Pro Punter
