LIVERMORE, CA — A mountain lion wandered into a Livermore backyard early Monday morning, Livermore police said.

The mountain lion was reported in a home near Findlay Way and Hillcrest Avenue. LPD’s animal control division believes the lion is a juvenile male who wandered in from a nearby open space.

There are roughly 2,000 to 3,000 mountain lions in California, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Mountain lions sometimes wander into urban areas, then retreat into their habitats, police said. LPD officers believe the mountain lion may have visited Livermore in search of water.
