Livermore Resident Wins National Artwork Contest
Alison Akin's artwork honors the loss of several first-line family members to cancer as well as friends and family who have survived it.

LIVERMORE, CA — Alison Akin of Livermore was recently selected as one of twelve national winners of the second annual CURE® Calendar Contest. The selected artists will have their artwork featured in an exclusive 2021 calendar.
According to CURE® magazine, in her artwork, Akin honors the hard loss of several first-line family members to cancer as well as many friends and family who have survived the experience. Her winning piece title, “Healing Spirit Paintress” is a collage which was created using acrylics, glass beads, embroidery thread for grass, tissue paper, 3D butterflies and Tibetan flags, ink, blue tule and gold leaf.
The girl in her piece is filled with love, optimism, and the belief that art can help relax and heal those dealing with hardship, according to the magazine.

In a variety of media including painting, photography, sculpture and more, the pieces not only serve as a therapeutic outlet for the artists but also aim to inspire all those who view them.
