Police Arrest Woman Found Sleeping in Stolen Van

A Concord woman found sleeping in a stolen van was arrested early Sunday on suspicion of possession of the stolen property, Livermore Police Officer David Blake said.

At about 5 a.m., police were sent to a report of a suspicious vehicle at the intersection of Vasco and Tesla roads. The vehicle was described as a white Ford box van, Blake said.

An officer arrived on scene and determined the van was registered out of Concord.

"The officer contacted the owner to determine if they were aware of the vehicle’s location," Blake said. "The owner was surprised to learn the vehicle was in Livermore as it was supposed to be in his storage yard in Concord. He told the officer the vehicle was stolen and he wished it to be towed and stored."

A tow truck was then called to the area and the driver unlocked the door to the cab of the truck.

The officer was then surprised to find Candace Williams sleeping inside the van.

Williams, 27, was taken into custody and found to be in possession of the keys to the van, Blake said. 

Williams did not want to discuss how she came into possession of the vehicle, Blake said. She was transported to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. Her bail is set at $20,000.

She is scheduled to be arraigned at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Department 701 of the Gale-Schenone Hall of Justice in Pleasanton.
