Livermore Results: Dunbar, Wang Ahead

Maggie Tufts and Deena Kaplanis are in the lead for two at-large seats on the LVJUSD Board of Education.

LIVERMORE, CA — As of 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, Planning Commissioner Steven Dunbar led the race for Livermore City Council District 3 with 1,243 votes, or 39.44 percent. Dunbar is ahead of Jeff Kaskey, who received 987 votes, or 30.81%, and David Farley, who received 922 votes, or 29.25 percent.

In District 4, school board member Kristie Wang led engineer Thomas Soules 1,869 to 1,479, or 55.82% to 44.18 percent.

John Marchand ran unopposed for mayor.

Six candidates were vying for two at-large seats on the LVJUSD Board. Earlier in the night, PTO and PTSA member Maggie Tufts was leading, but she was usurped by Deena Kaplanis, a chiropractor and PTA member who was in second place earlier. Now, Kaplanis leads with 5,195 votes, or 25.83%, followed by Tufts, with 4,668 or 23.21 percent. If these results hold, they will serve on the board, and Christiaan Vandenheuvel, Tara Boyce, Amanda Pepper, and Jean Paulsen will not.

As of September, the California Secretary of State reported that 22,310,352 Californians were registered to vote, which accounts for almost 82.92 percent of the state's eligible voting population.

In Alameda County, 950,534 residents are registered to vote, nearly 84 percent of all residents who are eligible. 59.3 percent of registered voters are Democrats, and 11.74 are Republican, a slight rise from 10.9 percent in 2022.

Alameda County has the fourth-highest percentage of Democrats in the state, behind San Francisco, Marin and Santa Cruz counties.
