Sonny Barger, founder of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, has died. He was 83.

OAKLAND, CA — Sonny Barger, founder of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, has died. He was 83.
Barger's Facebook page said Thursday, he died peacefully after a brief battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his wife, Zorana, and his loved ones.
"If you are reading this message, you’ll know that I’m gone. I’ve asked that this note be posted immediately after my passing."

Barger said he lived a "long and good life filled with adventure," and that he was privileged to be part of the motorcycle club.
"Although I’ve had a public persona for decades, I’ve mostly enjoyed special time with my club brothers, my family, and close friends," he said.

He told followers to keep their heads held high, to stay loyal, remain free, and always value honor.
Barger founded the original Angels chapter in Oakland in 1957. He was previously married to Sharon Barger, a model and former Miss Livermore.
