Suspected DUI Driver Slams Into Fence While Evading Police

A suspected DUI driver was arrested early Friday after he crashed into a fence and ran from police, Sgt. Erin Cole said.

In addition to the DUI arrest, Kaleb Makepeace also faces charges of resisting an officer, evading police and hit-and-run, according to court records.

Makepeace is a 20-year-old Livermore resident.

At 12:06 a.m. police were sent to the 1400 block of Carnelian Lane, near Murdell Lane, for a report of a domestic disturbance, Cole said.

When police arrived on scene they found a female who refused assistance from officers.

The female told officers that a male involved in the incident took off in a vehicle. She also provided a description of the car.

At 12:40 a.m., an officer was able to locate the vehicle and attempted to stop the car.

The driver, later identified as Makepeace, failed to yield and sped off, Cole said.

A brief pursuit followed but ended when Makepeace crashed into a home's fence near the intersection of Ruby Road and Diamond Drive.

Makepeace then exited the car and hopped over neaby fences, Cole said.

Police surrounded the area and were able to find and detain Makepeace.

A Pleasanton Police Department K9 unit also assisted in the search.

No injuries were reported in the crash.

Court records show Makepeace was previously arrested last year on assault charges in Dublin.

He is being held at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin in lieu of $86,200 bail.

Makepeace is scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Department 701 of the Gale-Schenone Hall of Justice in Pleasanton.
