Teens Arrested In 'Violent' Carjacking In Livermore: Police

A rifle-type gun was pointed at a driver when he was practicing parking with his father, police said. A high-speed chase ensued.

LIVERMORE, CA — On June 20, 2022, around 8:50 p.m., #Livermore Police responded to a report of an armed carjacking that occurred at the 3000 block of West Jack London Boulevard. When officers arrived, they spoke to the victim who was practicing parking and driving his father’s gray Honda Odyssey.

His father was watching on the sidewalk when the suspect’s car, a silver Mazda 5, pulled up next to the victim’s minivan. A passenger in the Mazda then got out and pointed a rifle-type gun at the victim. He told the victim to get out of the Honda. The victim complied and two suspects took off in the minivan.

At 8:57 p.m. California Highway Patrol located the minivan driving on eastbound Interstate 580. CHP attempted to stop the minivan but the suspects did not comply. A pursuit with speeds in excess of 100 mph began that lasted more than an hour. The suspects drove east into Tracy, northbound on Interstate 5 into Stockton, turned around, and headed southbound on Interstate 5.

CHP performed a PIT maneuver (pursuit intervention technique) and ultimately stopped the vehicle at Santa Fe Road and El Capitan Road in Ballico. The two suspects were taken into custody.

One suspect, the driver, is a 16-year-old from Merced. The other suspect, a passenger, is 18-year-old Ervin Bravobautista also from Merced.

Both were arrested for carjacking. The 16-year-old was also arrested for evading an officer. Bravobautista was booked into Santa Rita Jail while the juvenile was transported to Juvenile Hall.

Police are actively looking for a third suspect who was seen driving off in the silver Mazda 5.
