Tri-Valley One-Stop Career Center Offers Resume Help for Job-Seekers in Red-Hot Job Market

The session will take place on Wednesday, November 16.

As the Tri-Valley economy continues to heat up, the Tri-Valley One-Stop Career Center is offering a free Resume Review for area job seekers. The Resume Review will be on Wednesday, November 16 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Tri-Valley One-Stop Career Center in Dublin. The reviews are twenty minutes long and free to the public. The Resume Reviews require an appointment, which can be arranged by contacting the One-Stop at 925-560-9431.

The One-Stop will have a number of career coaches and human resources professionals on hand to review resumes. Job seekers are encouraged to bring their resumes and the job descriptions for positions they are interested in. One-Stop volunteers will review resumes and provide useful tips and strategies that help build a better resume. While at the One-Stop the public is invited to learn more about the One-Stop and the many free services it provides.

Sarah Holtzclaw, Program Manager of the Tri-Valley One-Stop says, "It is a very mixed economy right now. We have employers calling the One-Stop daily and even hourly, looking for employees. There are hundreds of openings for the more service-economy jobs. But the middle and upper level jobs are still highly competitive." Ms. Holtzclaw goes on to outline what the One-Shop is doing in response, "With unemployment as low as it is right now, there is an employment gap that needs to be filled. We've found we need to now educate the employers in their recruiting where we did not need to do that before. We are teaching employers about things like the realities of the new labor market and how to write job descriptions that will attract qualified employees. It's definitely a change from six to eight years ago."

The state and local economies are booming, with employers eager to find the right employees. Reports from the state show an unemployment rate of 5.3% for September 2016, with Alameda County experiencing a rate of only 4.3% during the same time period. These historically low rates were even lower in the Tri-Valley dropping to 3.0%. The city of Dublin had the lowest at 2.8%. This boom has resulted in a shortage of qualified applicants that is adversely affecting employers.

Previous One-Stop client Susan Teague recounts her experience with the One-Stop, "If you don't have the training or the skills, job hunting can be very scary. The Tri-Valley One-Stop really helped me find the job that I love. It gave me the tools, the resources, and the practice to approach interviews with confidence. Everyone was so friendly. I really think that this center is a great resource. I'm very, very glad I came here. If I did not come here I don't think I would have found the job I have."

To reserve a Resume Review, call the One-Stop at 925-560-9431 and schedule your 20-minute appointment.
