Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:

  1. The 2nd & PCH shopping center is getting four new businesses! They are Beachwood Brewing (there is one at 210 East 3rd Street), dan modern chinese (which is already operating in Pasadena, L.A., Santa Monica, Playa Vista, and Manhattan Beach), Fire Wings (a national chain), and JINYA Ramen Bar (an international chain). The goal is for these venues to be open “by the end of the year.” (LB Business Journal)
  2. 6100 Block Of Long Beach Boulevard Murder Update: We talked earlier in the week about the Friday shooting death that occurred in the 6100 block of Long Beach Boulevard when “a male suspect approached a group of subjects and got into a verbal dispute with the group, which escalated into a shooting.” The LBPD announced Tuesday that they had a suspect in custody, a “49-year-old resident of the city of Hawthorne.” He “has been booked on one count of murder.” (LBPD)
  3. Road closures for the 2022 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach began Wednesday. They will be lifted on Monday at 5 p.m. “Access to the Hyatt, Shoreline Village, and Shoreline Marina from Ocean Boulevard and Pine Avenue will be closed and reopened intermittently throughout the weekend, along with the Ocean Boulevard and the Alamitos Avenue entry access route.” (CBS)
  4. Did you know that, right now, there’s only one pickleball court in LB? Councilwoman Stacey Mungo plans to change that and “wants to see at least 20 new pickleball courts” in the city. As a result, the City Council agreed on Tuesday “to see how Long Beach could develop a plan for the expanding future of the recreational sport at city parks.” Officials expect a two-month turnaround for this report. (Press-Telegram)
  5. Love You Long Beach plans to host a Women’s Self Defense Pop Up on Saturday at The Bong Magreete Creative Space at 1700 East Broadway. “Guests will learn how to properly use self-defense weapons from Northeast Beauty Boutique and will get to participate in a self-defense demonstration from Professor Zahalea Anderson of RA Life Defense.” (LB Local News)
