- Several convenience stores were hit by armed robbers on Monday night. Authorities say that “at least five robberies occurred in Bellflower, Long Beach, and Paramount between 8 p.m. and midnight.” In LB, they robbed Ruby’s Liquor at 5442 Del Amo Boulevard and the 7-Eleven at Cherry and Artesia avenues. The robbers in Bellflower were armed and wearing ski masks. They got away “in an older white-colored four-door Mercedes.” (CBS)
- In 2020, there was a One Love Cali Reggae Fest at the Queen Mary Events Park. An attendee filed suit Friday against the promoters for tripping “on a black taped cable stretched across a walkway of the same color,” alleging premises liability and negligence. The plaintiff claims “physical and mental injuries.” (KFI)
- The port wants to add new storage tanks to the World Oil’s storage facility. It would enable the storage of 50,000 barrels. However, two groups of environmental activists filed appeals against the project with the City Council. They claim that the “City and port have not fully considered the health and environmental impacts of this new storage facility,” we learned Monday. (Press-Telegram/paywall)
- Malcolm Agnew is in LB! He tweeted Tuesday that he’s “spending the first day all over the Long Beach Area. Gritty kids that love ball and are as competitive as it gets.” This makes LB one of Sacramento State football’s recruiting areas this year. In related news, Oregon State football coaches were seen on campus at Millikan. (@M_80lane, @MillikanHSFB)
- North Long Beach filmmaker Britt Banks saved up $10,000 to fund “Blue Laces,” a 12-minute short film that won ‘Best Dramatic Narrative’ and ‘Best Actor’ at the Hip Hop Film Festival in 2021. Her next project is “to bring a new perspective to the burgeoning genre of Black horror.” (The HiLo)
