Here are the top five stories in Long Beach today:

  1. Carousel Preschool at 366 Cherry Avenue is closing its doors as of March 31. The school had been in business for decades, with the latest owner taking it over in 2004. After a recent expiration of the lease, the landlord asked the school to leave, and when the owner attempted to negotiate, she was told that “she missed the time frame to request an extension.” (ABC)
  2. This Sunday is the Long Beach Run for Ukraine. It is put together by members of the running community, who ask participants to donate entry fees to one of three vetted organizations at signup. “Runners will meet at 5500 East Ocean Blvd. at 8:15 a.m. to check in and prepare for the race at 9:05 a.m. The event will begin with a moment of silence for those who have died in Ukraine.” (LB Post)
  3. Millikan High School went on lockdown Tuesday morning. The school received a threat and called in the LBPD. “Our school has worked with the Long Beach Police Department this morning to implement a precautionary lockdown due to a potential threat that our school has received. Our students and staff are safe. LBPD is checking our campus to just make sure that we remain safe,” the principal explained. The scuttlebutt says that a bomb threat was made. (LB Local News)
  4. The City updated its health order on Tuesday, making it so that “bars, breweries, wineries, and clubs in Long Beach are no longer required to verify customers’ proof of COVID-19 vaccination.” Besides that, attendees no longer have to prove their vaccination status when visiting mega indoor events that include more than 1,000 individuals. (KTLA)
  5. The LB Civic Center COVID-19 testing site will close at the end of business on April 1. There has been insufficient demand for the service at that location to keep it open. If you do need testing, the Long Beach City College, Pacific Coast Campus site remains open. (LB Post)
