  1. “People need to eat and drink,” said Stephen Murray and opened M Wine Cheese Etc. at the corner of Spring & Clark in the Times Square Center. We learned Tuesday that the shop is now open and ready to help you pair wines with cheese. Other items you might find are wild mushroom confit, truffle oil, gelato cones, and blood orange sorbet popsicles. (LB Business Journal, Wine Cheese Etc.)
  2. Dr. Miles Nevin is running for City Council in the third district. The seat is currently held by Suzie Price. Rather than running for a third term in her district, Price has announced her candidacy for Long Beach mayor, a seat that will be vacated by Robert Garcia. Nevin is Chair of the Airport Advisory Commission. Interestingly, his endorsements are from neighborhood organizations, small business owners, and individuals. “As your next Councilmember, I will continue to invest in our business corridors, revitalize our infrastructure, prioritize public safety, protect our peninsula, parks, beaches, and wetlands, and create a compassionate and effective strategy to ensure no family has to experience homelessness.” (Miles Nevin)
  3. A female adult in her 50s was stabbed to death Tuesday in the 1000 block of Pacific Avenue. The LBPD was alerted by a caller who heard screams for help a little after 9:30 a.m. Witnesses pointed out a suspect in his 20s, who is the decedent’s son. “The son is believed to have stabbed the mother multiple times in the upper body during an argument inside their shared apartment.” (LBPD)
  4. A traffic fatality occurred Tuesday afternoon around 1 p.m. near Del Rey Court and Anaheim Street. A trash truck struck a 57-year-old pedestrian. “The preliminary investigation revealed a privately-owned garbage truck was backing up northbound on Del Rey Court, near Anaheim Street, when it struck a male adult pedestrian who was laying down in the alley.” The driver called authorities and remained on the scene. (LBPD)
  5. The City Council voted unanimously to move forward with construction for a seven-story apartment building near 7th Street and Locust Avenue. This required denial of an appeal brought by the Supporters Alliance for Environmental Responsibility. “The group is funded by the Southern California District Council of Laborers, a regional umbrella group for local construction unions,” and argued that “Long Beach broke its own planning rules by approving too much residential development Downtown.” (LB Post)
