Here are the top five stories in Long Beach today:

  1. In the early morning hours of Tuesday, the LBPD was called to a deadly shooting in the 400 block of South Street. “The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect(s) approached the victim and got into a verbal dispute. That dispute led to a physical fight, which escalated into a shooting.” “The shooting is believed to be gang-related.” (LBPD)
  2. Mark your calendars! Long Beach Organic invites you to its fundraiser, Plants R Us, at the Zaferia Junction Community Garden between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. “The event will also feature live jazz and fresh honey from their beekeeper.” (LB Local News)
  3. We learned Sunday that the “Washington neighborhood will get new public art on crosswalks this year as part of a $25,000 grant aimed to enhance pedestrian and public safety.” One such space is the 15th and Chestnut intersection. If you are a resident of the area, or even just drive through it, participate in an online survey to shape the look of the artwork! (LB Post)
  4. The LB Board of Water Commissioners meets on Thursday how to find a way to return $9 million to ratepayers. The refund is due to the embattled Measure M, which a judge declared unconstitutional. At this time, officials favor “a one-time rebate of around $100 each.” (Press-Telegram)
  5. If you are over the age of 50 or immunocompromised, you are eligible to receive a second COVID-19 booster as of Tuesday. “The booster shot can either be an additional dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech shot or a half-dose of the Moderna vaccine.” According to health officials, “about 14.7% of all new cases of the virus are the new variant,” BA.2. Where should you invest as a Long Beach resident with a $149,000 nest egg? Thanks to a change in the legal code, there’s a new investment Long Beach residents need to know about. In fact, Bloomberg asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now and many of them chose it.

This may surprise you, but it’s fine art.

Growing your nest egg with art isn’t new. Wealthy families like the Rockefellers have done it for centuries.

Here’s why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)

Translation: Art could be one of the best investments for uncertain times.

Luckily for you, we found Masterworks. This revolutionary platform lets you invest in art by Warhol, Monet, Picasso without spending millions.

The best part? Anyone from your area can skip their waitlist*.
