- If you heard the sirens zoom past your home Sunday night, it was likely because of a DUI pursuit. Starting out in Newport Beach, the suspect took officers on a chase through Huntington Beach, Long Beach, and finally Lakewood. Going through residential streets and hitting the occasional curb, the fence at the grassy area near Del Amo Boulevard finally stopped them. (NBC)
- The City reported its first case of community-spread COVID-19 Omicron Friday. The patient is unvaccinated and has not traveled, which means that they picked up the virus from another individual locally. On December 7, the City reported the first case of a traveling Omicron patient. At this time, there have been 30 detected cases of this variant in the county. (LB Post)
- The Paulson twins at Millikan HS are doing more than dazzle with their athletic performances. We learned Saturday that the teens had pioneered their own clothing brand. Connecting with a loyal fan base via Instagram, they have created a thriving secondhand clothing market. Check out Cozmicwaste for yourself! (The HiLo)
- The LBPD released a statement Sunday regarding the two shootings that took place in the City over the last 24 hours. While officers don’t believe that the two shootings are related, the PD wants residents to know that they are “actively investigating,” “following up on all leads,” and “working closely with patrol divisions.” Moreover, the affected neighborhoods will see more patrol activity. - As of Monday, Total Transportation Services (TSSI) has taken delivery of the first Nikola Tre battery-electric trucks. It will deploy them at the Port of LB. This is a pilot program which, if successful, means that TSSI will order more of the vehicles in the future. However, Nikola has had some internal problems that could put its ability to deliver in question. (Electrive)
