Fight Escalates Into Shooting Near Long Beach High School

LONG BEACH, CA — A physical fight in a neighborhood near Long Beach Polytechnic High School escalated into a shooting Tuesday night, police said.

Long Beach Police Department officers responded to a report of gunshots in the 2000 block of Atlantic Avenue at about 9:32 p.m. When officers arrived, neither the suspect nor the victim were present but evidence of the shooting was found.

A preliminary investigation into the incident revealed that the suspect and victim were fighting when the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the other man.

Later that same night, LBPD was notified that the victim was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries in his lower body in a local hospital. No other injuries were reported, police said.

Police did not share any information about the suspect's identity. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said.
