Fight Prompts Attempted Murder, Gun Charges For Teens In Long Beach

After a 15-year-old brought a gun to school last week, police arrested him and a 17-year-old boy as part of an investigation into a fight.

LONG BEACH, CA — A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of shooting another teenager during a fight in Long Beach and a 15-year-old boy — accused of being involved in that altercation — was arrested on suspicion of bringing a gun to school the day after the fight, police said Friday.

The shooting occurred Dec. 7 at around 4:15 p.m. on the 1000 block of Junipero Avenue when a male suspect fired shots that struck a 17-year-old victim. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries to the lower body and was transported to a hospital, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The next day, police responded to a report that a 15-year-old boy brought a gun to Wilson High School. The gun was recovered at the school and the boy was arrested, police said.

Gang detectives determined the 15-year-old was among those involved in the fight the day earlier. They also identified a 17-year-old male suspect accused of being responsible for the shooting, police said.

The incidents remain under investigation, police said.
