Here are the top five stories in Long Beach today:
- Finch and Sparrow Games on 28th Street can’t catch a break. In January, a man stole a trading card worth about $40,000. On Wednesday, right around 2 a.m., a burglar stole about $35,000 worth of trading cards. “Now we are going to have to implement more potentially customer-unfriendly policies, more security measures,” the Signal Hill store’s owner said. (ABC)
- A 23-year-old man has been booked “on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of a controlled substance and two outstanding warrants” on Wednesday. LBPD connected him to the late-March stabbing at the intersection of Fourth Street and Bonito Avenue. “Police say the victim did not know (the assailant) prior to the assault and that the motive remains unclear.” (Long Beach Post)
- There was a traffic collision Thursday morning. “The traffic collision occurred sometime after 10 a.m. in the area of Cherry Avenue and Rogers Street.” A driver trying to make a right on Cherry was struck by a car going southbound on the avenue. Both drivers stayed on the scene, and “officers determined that distracted driving, speeding, and impairment do not appear to be a factor in the collision.” (LB Post)
- On April 23, the Long Beach City College Pacific Coast campus will participate in the Festival of Great Reads. There will be 50 authors and vendors, you can buy food, and there’s a children’s book giveaway. “Everything will take place in the quad area, near the LBCC cafeteria. The festival is free to attend, and parking is available in the structure at Pacific Coast Highway and Walnut Avenue.” (Press-Telegram)
- On Friday, Mayor Robert Garcia said that the City is home to the nation’s largest Cambodian community. He took the opportunity to “wish all those celebrating the Khmer New Year — in our city and around the world — a safe, healthy, and prosperous year to come.” (Long Beach Mayor)
