Firefighters Battle Structure Fire for Three Hours Before Putting It Out

About 50 Long Beach firefighters took more than three hours Saturday to douse a stubborn structure fire, a department official said.

The blaze in the 500 block of 32nd Street was reported at 1:47 p.m. and was knocked down at about 5 p.m., fire department spokesman Jake Heflin said.

Investigators are combing the scene for signs of arson, a routine step in most fire examinations, Heflin said.

A damage estimate has not been determined, he said.
