Here are the top five stories today in Long Beach:
- Would you like an up-close and personal experience involving the Christian Good Friday tradition? All Saints Anglican Cathedral on Termino Avenue makes it possible. Today and Saturday, you are “led through Jerusalem and meet people who had something to do with” the day Christ died. “It’s not like street theater, because street theater you can walk away from. You can’t walk away from the characters that you meet.” (Press-Telegram)
- L.A. River Bike Path Maintenance Update: We recently talked about the City’s plans to do maintenance work on the bike path. We learned on Thursday that this maintenance is actually “a sweep of the encampments along the river’s embankments.” Notices warn individuals they are trespassing and promise to store belongings left behind, but no address is given. Also, “there are usually promises of connecting people to housing;” not this time. (LB News)
- On Wednesday, the City published a notice, “seeking proposals from highly experienced contractors interested in serving as the administrator for the cleanup and restoration of sites affected by encampments in parks and open spaces.” Applicants have until April 28 at 11 a.m. to submit their proposals. (City of LB)
- Habitat for Humanity for Greater Los Angeles partnered with the Arts Council for Long Beach and facilitated “a mural and the installation of about 20 solar lights on Chestnut Avenue from Pacific Coast Highway to 16th Street.” You can see the mural, “which faces an alley outside the Long Beach Day Nursery.” The artist is Daniel Toledo. (The HiLo)
- This Sunday, you have the opportunity to rub shoulders with the inimitable Justin Rudd during Operation Easter Basket. The event runs from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and is a “scaled-down, one-day volunteer effort to put together baskets at Bay Shore Church.” The goal is to put together 2,000 baskets. Prior recipients included Aloha Elementary, the Boys and Girls Clubs, and Love Beyond Limits. (Patch)
