Here are the top five stories today in Long Beach:

  1. More than 300 posters on Yelp have spoken, and as of Thursday, Long Beach is home to the state’s best burrito! Double-check their taste, and see if you agree. Head over to Joliza's Tacos at 2233 Pacific Avenue, and order the carnitas burrito. (Fox 11)
  2. If you do not have any plans yet tonight from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., head over to the art walk event turned Long Beach County Fair. As usual, it runs along “Atlantic Avenue from Liberation Brewing to the south up to the EXPO Arts Center in the north.” There will be spaghetti eating contests, a peep show (recently hatched chicks!), live music, and more. (Signal Tribune)
  3. If you’re worried about being evicted for non-payment of rent, there may be another reprieve. California's lawmakers voted on Thursday “to ban evictions for anyone with a pending application until June 30.” “While the state bill will stop evictions for people who have applied for assistance, it will not give renters more time to apply for help.” (LB News)
  4. Third District (CD 3) Councilwoman Suzie Price sponsored, and Councilmen Roberto Uranga (CD 7) and Al Austin (CD 8) co-sponsored, a motion asking for a “report Tuesday night about unregistered and homemade guns.” “All across the country and even here in Long Beach, we have seen the increase in gun violence connected to more and more ghost guns,” she said. (Press-Telegram)
  5. The Shoreline Gateway’s construction is complete and, as of Wednesday, it is the City’s tallest building. It sits at the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Alamitos Avenue, has 35 floors, and “features 315 luxury apartments on its upper floors, with 6,500 square feet of commercial space and a five-level, 470-car subterranean parking garage.” (Urbanize)
