LBPD Investigating Person Of Interest In Shooting Near School
Police are investigating a person of interest in relation to a shooting that led officials to lock down a nearby school on Monday.
LONG BEACH, CA — The Long Beach Police Department is investigating a person of interest in relation to a shooting that led officials to lock down Perry Lindsey Middle School on Monday.
According to the LBPD, officers received a report about a shooting in the 5100 block of Pacific Avenue, about one block away from the school. When officers arrived, they found evidence that shooting occurred but no suspect or victim were at the scene.
Shortly after their arrival, officers were notified about a man with a life-threatening gunshot wound who was dropped off in the emergency room at a local hospital. The man later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, and his identity was witheld pending notification of his next of kin.

Preliminary investigation results from homicide detectives revealed the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
"Officers and detectives canvassed the area and conducted safety checks, however, were unable to locate the suspect," LBPD said in a statement.

Additional officers who responded to the hospital were able to identitfy a person of interest in the case, but the person's involvement is still under investigation.
No information about the motive or circumstances of the shooting was available, but detectives said the incident was still under investigation.
