Long Beach Middle School Briefly Locks Down Due To Shooting In Area

LONG BEACH, CA — Perry Lindsey Middle School briefly went on lockdown Monday due to shooting reports in the area, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The LBPD received a report of a shooting at about 11:25 a.m. in the area of 51st Street and Pacific Avenue, which is about one block away from the middle school. The school reopened shortly after the brief lockdown.
According to the police, a man who was shot in the area took himself to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Homicide Detectives returned to the scene to further investigate the incident. The LBPD Neighborhood Safety Bike Team will be in the area Monday and Tuesday to engage with the community, officials said.
