Long Beach Receives Additional $765K to Battle Homelessness

The award brings the total amount of money the city receives from the government to $6.9 million.

LONG BEACH, CA -- Long Beach was award an another $765,000 from the federal government to combat homelessness, the city announced Tuesday.

The award brings the total amount of money the city receives from the government to $6.9 million.

"The grant is a recognition not just of the need to house people, but also the great work the Long Beach Continuum of Care is doing," Mayor Robert Garcia said.

In March, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded the city $6.2 million for homeless services.

The funding period for the grant is from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017. Eleven agencies in the city are sub-grantees and provide a commutative 21 projects in city.
