Here are the top five stories in Long Beach today:

  1. The Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach isn’t just great for adults. The students of the Lakewood Village Community Church Nursery School put on their first annual mini Grand Prix. The race took place on Wednesday as part of a fundraiser. There were racing bibs, checkered flags, orange cones, and numbered tricycles! (LB Post)
  2. Another group of students looked for inspiration to the Grand Prix on Friday. There were 150 LBUSD juniors and seniors who participated in a Banc of California sponsored event featuring racecar drivers. They learned about “financial literacy and life skills,” “credit, and career opportunities.” (LB Business Journal)
  3. Mark your calendars! The City’s inimitable Justin Rudd is putting on a LB Peace Vigil for Ukraine. It’s planned for Friday at 7:30 p.m. on the front lawn of the Bay Shore Church in Belmont Shore. Among others, present will be “Assemblymember O’Donnell, Mayor Garcia, Councilwoman Price, Police Chief Hebeish, (and) Pastor Dave Clark.” Several Ukrainian-Americans will give remarks. (Justin Rudd)
  4. And, while you are marking your calendars, jot down the Walk for Kids on May 1. Led by Ronald McDonald House Charities, this fundraiser kicks off at the LB Convention Center back lot and Rainbow Lagoon. Opening ceremonies are at 9:30 a.m. Closer to 10 a.m., you can “walk your own route as a team, or workout with Naples Fitness.” (Walk for Kids)
  5. LEGO Camp BrickBrick goes on April 21 and 22. “There will be three sessions ($25 per session) each day with themes like Pull-Back Cars, Building Little Villages, and Build Challenges. Completed models will stay at the facility; however, some take-home kits will be available for purchase.” If your kids need something to do, check it out at Brickersville in Shoreline Village, 419 Shoreline Village Drive.
