Police Investigate Mysterious Death In Long Beach

The Long Beach Police Department is investigating a man's mysterious death near Long Beach Polytechnic High School.

LONG BEACH, CA — The Long Beach Police Department is investigating a man's mysterious death near Long Beach Polytechnic High School.

According to police, officers responded to a man in need of medical attention at about 3:18 p.m. Wednesday. When officers arrived, Long Beach Fire paramedics had already declared the man, 59-year-old Anthony Mercy, dead at the scene.

LBPD officers said Mercy had injuries that could possibly be related to his death, but the exact cause of death is unknown at this time. The official cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner/Coroner.

Preliminary investigation suggests that Mercy was possibly involved in a fight of some sort on Tuesday in the area of 14th Street Park and Seaside Park, investigators said.
