The quickest way to get caught up on the good and not so good things happening today in Long Beach.

Hey Long Beach neighbors! As you may know, Amazon Web Services experienced an outage on Tuesday that affected the Long Beach Daily. Some of you might have received a late newsletter on Wednesday, or no newsletter at all. Please know this was unfortunately beyond our control, but know also that we are fully back in business! — Sylvia

- The Prince of Peace Pageant is back! Taking place this Saturday and Sunday along Wardlow Road starting from Bellflower Boulevard, it is the collaboration of five local churches. There are 16 nativity scenes that tell the nativity story from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (A personal favorite of prior years were the REAL sheep.) (CA News Times)
- The Alamitos Neighborhood Library reopened Tuesday. The city’s oldest library branch underwent “a major heating, ventilation & air conditioning replacement project.” Visit the library at 1836 East 3rd Street. (@LongBeachMayor)
- Irvine is home to the Hello Kitty Grand Café. As you might expect, it serves cookies, cakes, and other goodies. In addition to the 860 Irvine Center Drive location, the restaurant operates two Hello Kitty Café Trucks that travel across the nation. This Saturday, it’s LB’s turn to get a visit! The truck will be at 2nd & PCH from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and feature “some supercute treats & merch, while supplies last!” (Sanrio)
- Evicting LB tenants during remodels will be more difficult and expensive. The City Council determined Tuesday “to start drafting an ordinance that will add to the protections that tenants have from being displaced from their units being remodeled.” Council member Cindy Allen wants “for the city to start tracking evictions caused by landlords remodeling units, increasing the relocation assistance given to tenants to $4,500 or two months rent, whichever is more, and to require a 90-day notice for tenants being displaced due to remodeling.” (LB Post)
- The LBPD announced Wednesday that it is opening a murder investigation into the murder of a 33-year-old man. He was shot in a park in the 800 block of East 7th Street on November 29. The man was experiencing homelessness. According to the press release, “unknown suspect(s) approached him and began shooting.” If you have any information, please call Homicide Detectives Don Collier or JC Reyes at (562) 570-7244.
