Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:
- There was a shooting near the MOLAA in the 600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. It happened Monday evening, when witnesses reported hearing an argument that culminated in gunshots. The victim survived the shooting but is in critical condition. (LB Post)
- The LBPD needs your help finding a hit-and-run driver, who killed a 72-year-old pedestrian. On November 12, the deadly incident happened at Artesia Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue. Witnesses described the vehicle as a “dark Toyota Camry.” Tuesday’s updates note that the vehicle is an “early to mid-2000s Toyota Camry” with “tinted windows and a missing hubcap on the front driver’s side tire.” If this description rings a bell, please call Detective Joseph Johnson of the Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail at (562)570-7355. (LB Local News)
- On Friday, 2nd & PCH will host a tree-lighting ceremony. Be there at 5 p.m. and stick around for photos with “Buddy the Elf and Jovie, character meet and greets, balloons, face painting and more.” The tree is a 53-foot White Fir. Kids can now download a letter to Santa and drop it off in a special mailbox. Get this letter in before December 20, and you might get a response from Santa. (LA TF USA)
- If you are a traditional homebuyer, this is someone who’s not an investor or cash buyer, you might find it difficult to buy a place in LB. A Tuesday report notes that inventory is low, with only about 410 properties, “including single-family detached, townhomes and condominiums,” for sale. One of the investors is Blackstone, an equity firm that bought up a company owning 17,000 rental homes. (LB Business Journal)
- The Speak Cheezy is moving from pop-up only to brick and mortar. The pizzeria with its famous “flame-licked sourdough pies” is taking over 3950 E. 4th Street. A Monday report notes that the van will “continue to operate for events and parties as well.” (Eater LA)
