Here are the top five stories today in Long Beach:

  1. Sunday morning at around 1:39 a.m., the LBPD was called to the Denny’s in the 600 block of LB Boulevard. A 33-year-old man was suspected of sexually assaulting a minor. Patrons intervened, held the man, and called the police. Officers noticed that the suspect had stab wounds; however, “it is unknown if the suspect sustained injuries during this incident or during an unrelated incident.” (KTLA)
  2. If you are planning on using the L.A. River Trail, there will be some maintenance done. Officials plan for it to occur between Ocean Blvd and Artesia Blvd through Monday, April 18. Because there’s a chance for trail closures, plan on using a different route. (@GoActiveLB)
  3. Two Long Beach Community College District part-time faculty members filed a class-action lawsuit on Monday. They allege that “part-time faculty are compensated only for classroom time and office hours, even though the district knows they spend additional time on activities related to teaching, like prepping for lectures and grading student work.” The California Teachers Association supports the suit. The District declined to “comment on pending litigation.” (LAist)
  4. On Monday, Mayor Robert Garcia was on hand to open the “Ronald R. Arias Health Equity Center in North Long Beach.” You can find it at Houghton Park. It will “provide clinical services, including HIV support, family planning, immunizations, and the City’s Black Health Equity Program. . . . non-health services will also operate out of the building including workforce reentry programs, community safety programs, violence prevention, rental assistance, and youth mentorship programs.” (@LongBeachMayor, Signal Tribune)
  5. The small silvery fish known as the grunion is making its annual run. Coming ashore to lay eggs, “Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro has been quite active the last few nights, with hundreds of the fish running aground.” The next run “is expected to begin the night of Saturday, April 16 and continue through the night of Tuesday, April 19.” “The state predicts the last run of the season will be Aug. 30 from 11:50 p.m. - 1:50 a.m.” (Fox 11)

Where should you invest as a Long Beach resident with a $149,000 nest egg? Thanks to a change in the legal code, there’s a new investment Long Beach residents need to know about. In fact, Bloomberg asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them chose it.

This may surprise you, but it’s fine art.

Growing your nest egg with art isn’t new. Wealthy families like the Rockefellers have done it for centuries.

Here’s why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)

Translation: Art could be one of the best investments for uncertain times.

Luckily for you, we found Masterworks. This revolutionary platform lets you invest in art by Warhol, Monet, Picasso without spending millions.
