  1. LB’s winter shelter opened Wednesday at 1718-1722 Hayes Avenue. The City Council will vote tonight to let Volunteers With America Los Angeles lease the space rent-free through March 31 of next year. The shelter provides “intake, nightly shelter for individuals, showers, and two daily meals.” (LB Post)
  2. The LB Port is testing a new program with the LBUSD that benefits students at Jordan HS’s ACE Academy Program, a Monday report revealed. By offering “work-based learning and other real-world experiences for students.” the Port hopes to give students “contacts, experiences, background, career exploration and awareness.” The principal welcomes the opportunity that students will have with this large employer. (LB Business Journal)
  3. Do you want to shop at the “1st package-free grocery store in LBC?" You can! Ethikli Package-Free Goods is coming to 352 East 4th Street. Shoppers bring their own jars or other containers to fill them with the products they would like. The store has hosted a couple of soft open events – one was the small business Saturday on November 27 – and says it will be open by the fall of this year. (Winter starts on the 21st; no pressure.) (Ethikli)
  4. On Monday, we learned that Regency Centers Corp. sold the 6.2-acre property at 6500 East PCH to the Onni Group of Companies for $68 million. What used to be a shopping center will become multifamily housing with waterfront pricing. “High rent growth” was one of the selling points. (LA Business Journal/paywall)
  5. 456 Elm Avenue in the East Village Arts District is about to become the hotbed for new culinary experiences. Named the Partake Collective, it plans to transform 25,000 square feet into several smaller kitchens, food prep areas, refrigeration, freezers, and an accelerator program with “offering capital, tools, and the training required for a small brand to grow (an application is required); as well as tenant support staff offering expert guidance from legal to insurance, design and branding of your products.” Targeted tenants are pop-up or cottage food businesses that want to go big. As of Monday, the anticipated opening date is Spring 2022. (The HiLo)
