1 Killed in Crash on 405 Freeway Near LA's Bel Air Area
One person was killed today in a crash involving a semi truck and a Volkswagen Beetle near Bel Air.
LOS ANGELES -- A motorist whose car rear-ended a big rig on the San Diego (405) Freeway in the Bel Air area today died at the scene.
California Highway Patrol officers were called at 4:42 a.m. to the southbound 405 Freeway at North Mulholland Drive, a CHP spokesman told City News Service.
The driver of a 1969 Volkswagen Beetle, who was described only as a male, was fatally injured, according to the CHP. Information on his identity was not immediately known.

The truck was being driven at a ``low speed'' when the car crashed into it and became lodged underneath it, according to the CHP.
It was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, the CHP reported.

The crash closed all southbound lanes of the freeway while the CHP conducted its investigation. Some lanes were reopened about an hour afterward, but two right lanes remained closed, a closure that was continuing late Thursday morning.
