1 Killed, 3 Critically Injured During Wrong Way Crash On 10 Freeway

One person was killed and three people were hurt today during a multi-vehicle crash involving a wrong way driver on the 10 freeway.

LOS ANGELES --One person was killed and three others were critically injured today during a multi-vehicle crash involving a wrong way motorist on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway at the outskirts of downtown Los Angeles, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 4:40 a.m. on the eastbound freeway at Santa Fe Avenue amid reports of a motorist going eastbound in the westbound lanes of traffic, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash involved a Dodge Ram pickup and at least two other vehicles,
the CHP said.

Paramedics dispatched to the scene at 4:40 a.m. rushed three people to a hospital in critical condition, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department. One person was pronounced dead at the crash scene.

The CHP issued a SigAlert at 4:56 a.m. for the closure of four lanes of the eastbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway and Santa Fe Avenue for at last two and a half hours.

A representative from the Medical Examiner's Office was called out to the scene at 5:26 a.m. and paramedics rushed at least one person to a hospital for moderate injuries.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area or seek alternate routes.
