101 Freeway SigAlert: Truck Carrying Propane Tanks Catches Fire

The fire backed up traffic near the Sepulveda Pass and on surrounding streets for miles.

ENCINO, CA — A box truck carrying load of propane tanks caught on fire on the Ventura (101) Freeway, creating a major hazard and shutting down several lanes of the freeway Wednesday morning.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert for the eastbound Ventura (101) Freeway at Hayvenhurts Avenue near the San Diego (405) Freeway in Encino. Authorities escorted cars off the freeway and shut down streets in the surrounding in the area, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire was reported at about 8:30 a .m., and several lanes of the freeway remained closed as of 10:30 a.m.
