📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:
- A troubled soul threatened to jump off the 110 Freeway overpass on Wednesday. Calls came pouring in to law enforcement just after 2 p.m. The Highway Patrol shut down all but one southbound lane near 7th Street. Police officers talked with the individual. The Fire Department inflated a giant airbag underneath the overpass. The person didn’t jump; by 4:45 p.m., the situation was calmed, and they were taken to a hospital. (2 Urban Girls)
- Someone shot at a Jewish man leaving a shul near Shenandoah Street and Cashio Avenue on Wednesday morning. The victim survived and described the shooter as a “middle-aged Asian male (who) drove a gray Honda.” At the time, it was unclear if it was a hate crime. However, a second man was shot on Thursday morning near South Bedford Street and Pico Boulevard. He identified the shooter “as a white male.” (The Jerusalem Post, Fox)
- When Mike Bonin was on the Los Angeles City Council, anti-camping law enforcement on the Westside remained in limbo. We learned on Wednesday that with Traci Park’s election as the representative of the 11th District, the City Council could vote to impose the legislation. It placed dissenting council members — Katy Yaroslavsky, Nithya Raman, Marqueece Harris-Dawson and Hugo Soto-Martinez — in the minority. "We will not do enforcement until every individual living on the street has the opportunity to come inside,'' Park explained. (NBC)
- Salt & Straw is coming to 3823 Sunset Boulevard! Finally, you’ll no longer have to drive to the Arts District or Studio City to get your dandelion cocoa nibs or cloud forest chocolate ishpingo. The anticipated opening date is this spring. (The Eastsider LA)
- You have until February 19 to visit the Los Angeles Art Show. A $30 ticket buys you access to the L.A. Convention Center’s West Hall, where you can rub elbows with exhibitors and artists. “Gallerist talks are among the highlights” along with “thousands of photographs, paintings, sculptures, textiles, and more.” (NBC)
