14-Year-Old Boy Faces Attempted Murder Charge After Stabbing At Protest: LAPD

A protest against President Donald Trump's immigration policies attended largely by teens turned violent last week, police said.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A 14-year-old boy was arrested after stabbing another teen at an immigration protest in downtown Los Angeles, police announced this week.

The stabbing occurred before 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7 on Spring Street near City Hall, when the 14-year-old stabbed a 17-year-old boy, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

LA Fire Department paramedics transported the teen to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

Various groups ultimately converged on City Hall before marching on streets in the area and gathering in Grand Park.

A scuffle broke out among an unknown number of people, and one person wound up on the ground, bleeding from an apparent stab wound, video from the scene showed. Many of other students then ran from the park as police and paramedics arrived.

Los Angeles police declared the remaining protesters to be involved in an unlawful assembly and ordered the group to disperse, which they ultimately did. While the participants walked in various directions away from the park, a group later assembled on the Sixth Street Bridge, forcing a temporary closure of the span until the crowd moved on.

Spring Street was closed between Temple and 1st streets Friday afternoon as police investigated the stabbing.

The marches had been mostly peaceful, although dozens of people were detained when a protest got unruly on Monday, April 3.
