$50K Reward Offered In Pregnant Woman's LA Hit-And-Run Death

Authorities on Friday offered a $50,000 reward to help solve the recent hit-and-run death of woman in Los Angeles' Harbor Gateway area.

LOS ANGELES -- Authorities said Friday that they hope a $50,000 reward will generate tips that help them solve the hit-and-run death of a pregnant woman in L.A.'s Harbor Gateway area.

Veronica Hernandez, 45, was injured on Aug. 4 as she was collecting recyclables from a recycling container on Alondra Boulevard west of Orchard Avenue, and she died at a hospital.

Hernandez, a mother of five, ``was temporarily homeless'' when she was fatally injured, a Los Angeles Police Department statement said. A speeding car had tried to pass another car on its right and struck her, according to the LAPD.

The force of the impact sent Hernandez flying into the air, LAPD Detective Ryan Moreno said. She landed about 30- to 40-feet away.

``After the collision, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene without providing aid or identifying him/herself, as required by law,'' according to a police statement.

Investigators to believe the hit-and-run vehicle is a dark-colored, BMW 5-Series. A license plate was not immediately known, and police don't have a description of the driver.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call detectives at (424) 298-7898 or (877) LAPD-247.
