6, Including Child, Injured In Fiery Police Chase Crash

It's the second time in days that a Los Angeles Police Department chase ended in a crash involving multiple injuries.

LOS ANGELES, CA - A woman and child were among six people injured in a fiery crash with a Los Angeles Police Department patrol unit at the end of a chase in Leimert Park Monday night.

A 30-year-old woman and 12-year-old boy were trapped in the wreckage and had to be rescued by firefighters, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The pair were rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

A police vehicle was engulfed in flames.

LAPD officers were chasing a DUI suspect before the chase ended at Crenshaw Boulevard south of Vernon Avenue at about 8:20 p.m. Monday, according to the LAPD. At least two vehicles were involved in the crash, but the suspect's vehicle got away, according to police.

Firefighters were called to the 4300 block of South Crenshaw Boulevard to rescue two people trapped in the wreckage of a red sedan, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

Ultimately, five people were hospitalized.

It's the second time in less than a week that an LAPD chase ended in a crash involving multiple injuries.

Six people were injured— two in critical condition — following a vehicle theft pursuit crash in San Pedro Friday.

Several were trapped in the wreckage of Friday's crash and had to be extricated by firefighters using hydraulic tools.
